Fall Faves

This Fall has been a bit of a hectic one. But, it seemed to have went so fast — too fast. However, now that it’s officially December, it’s time to reflect on some Fall faves. Here we go:

1.Simply Cheetos Puffs White Cheddar or Jalepeno

If you’ve read my Summer Faves, then you know that I live for puffy, cheddary, salty, goodness. This summer I was obsessed with Cheddar Clouds — a snack I found in a random convenience store around the corner from where I lived. When I came back to school and realized that my time with the Cheddar Clouds was over, I was a bit devastated. But, it wasn’t until I was strolling down the snack aisle in Wal-Mart, when I came across Simply Cheetos. I had minor heart palpitations and proceeded to buy them about every week since. And, to top it off, they are organic.

2. Nude polish

My mom is the queen bee when it comes to Essie nail polishes. Whenever I come home from school, the colors she has stored on the bottom shelf of the fridge are always on point (yes, keep nail polishes in the fridge to keep them from clumping). While home for Thanksgiving I used Essie’s Sand Tropez. It’s the PERFECT nude and keeps your manicure looking clean and chic. I found another nude color (a heck of a lot cheaper but on the darker side) by Pure Ice called Taupe it Off. (note that the color doesn’t really look like the one on the website).

3. Cake in a mug

Picture this: It’s almost 9 p.m. on a Tuesday night and it was a ROUGH day. All you can think about is having a glass of wine and some cake. You walk into the kitchen, take a mug out of the cupboard and a packet of cake magic, add water then boom– you have a cake in a mug. Dunkin Hines is a genius. There are so many flavors and it’s only $2.99.

4. Backpack

Throughout high school and college I’ve always preferred to carry around a tote bag with my books instead of a backpack… or so I thought. I have scoliosis and one of my shoulders is legitimately higher than the other and it’s quite annoying when I’m wearing wide neck sweaters or shirts. So, I realized that a heavy tote with my laptop might not be making it better. I decided to go on a hunt for the perfect backpack. After looking on website after website, I kind of gave up and decided to let it go. However, while home one weekend, I came across the perfect one…. I didn’t choose the backpack life, the backpack life chose me. (I’m so weird, but I don’t know how else to explain it).

5. “When the Moon Was Ours”

This is a YA book by Anna-Marie McLemore. I had to read this book for a literature class, and it was definitely one of my favorites that I’ve read this year. It incorporates magic, but in a way that is so unique that it’s such a page-turner. I think this was unlike anything I’ve ever read. I would consider it to be a coming of age novel and a large part of our discussion in class focused on why more books like this should be read young adults, perhaps in middle/ high school– something to think about if you find yourself reading it. I don’t want to give too much away, but this review sums it up:

“McLemore’s second novel is such a lush surprising fable, you half expect birds to fly out of the pages… McLemore uses the supernatural to remind us that the body’s need to speak its truth is primal and profound, and that the connection between two people is no more anyone’s business than why the dish ran away with the spoon.”
–Jeff Giles, New York Times Book Review

6. Cranberry infused White Wine

I went on a wine tour and OMG. At the very first winery I fell in love with this wine. I tend to stay further away from sweeter wines, but this one swept me off my feet. I think it might be because it doesn’t even taste so much like wine– it honestly tastes like cranberry juice with a little twist. I tried to see if I could order another bottle online from the winery but I can’t :(. However, there seems to be other wines and even recipes on Google. But, if you find yourself on the Cayuga Wine Trail, make a stop at Cayuga Ridge Estate Winery and buy some Cranberry Essence.

7. Fast Fix for Puffy Eyes – alba Botanica

I tried this product from a Her Campus “Survival Kit.”  About three times a semester, we receive a box full of products to try — from Tarte cosmetics to Hi-Chew candy. Recently, we got this puffy eye fixer and I find myself using it every morning. It comes in a tiny tube with clear gel. After putting it on my eyes it definite reduced puffiness and has that cooling feel to it. It’s perfect for those really early mornings. Usually after I wash my face, I’ll put a small amount under my eyes, make a cup of coffee and boom– no more puffy eyes. (Side note: they have a line of “fast fixes” from dark circles to thin lips — I’ve tried the thin lips lipgloss and LOVE it).

8. Perfectly Posh Apricots Overnight Face Mask

Who doesn’t love face masks? This one is a bit different but the results are the best I’ve experienced. If you haven’t checked out Perfectly Posh— do that right after you read this. I’ve mentioned the brand in previous posts, but it’s the best. All their products are made from organic and natural ingredients. One of my favorites is their Apricots Overnight Face Mask. I bought this product in April but haven’t really used it simply because as the weather was getting warmer, my skin was getting oiler rather than drier… I didn’t need anymore moisture. However, recently as the weather has been getting colder, I’ve been putting this on my reptile-looking skin before I go to bed. In the morning, I wash it off and wa-la– my face feels as soft as the silk pillowcase it slept on. The moisturizing power is out of this world.

9. Banana, honey, whip cream & cinnamon

OK, this is my favorite snack (next to cheddar puffy ones, of course) so I thought I would share. It’s sweet and will satisfy your sweet cravings. Trust me. Just slice a banana however you want, drizzle some honey, a bit of whip cream, and a dash of cinnamon.

10. Post Malone

To be completely honest, I’ve never been a huge music person. I usually hate listing to songs over and over again, I don’t really like live concerts– it’s just not my thing. (One time I told someone this and they looked at me like I was a version of the Devil… sorry, not sorry). However, Post Malone’s album Stoney has me listening on repeat. I would love to see him live ugh. Have you ever watched one of his interviews? He just seems like a funny, genuine guy and he puts a lot of thought into his music. “I Fall Apart” is my ultimate fave.
